about

Niamh Swanton is a performative photographer who is from and based in Dunmore East, Co. Waterford. She graduated from Crawford College of Art and Design in 2019, where she gained a degree in Fine Art.

Swanton’s work revolves around the human condition. She uses both performance and staged photography to create tangible forms of thoughts and emotions. Swanton’s work is laden with dream symbolism, humour and visual trickery as a way to form an idiosyncratic view on what it means to be human. By moving through such territories, she fabricates scenes which obscure the line between imagination and memory. Although the narratives are fictitious, the images act as a catalyst for viewers to question the relationship they have with themselves on a very real and interpersonal level.

Since graduating college Niamh Swanton has had publications in Source, Graduate Photography Showcase, Issue 098, Bloomers, OUT OF BODY, Issue 04 and Aesthetica, Future Now 2022 anthology. Along with exhibitions such as Origins, Lismore Castle Arts, Waterford, Saturation, Crawford Art Gallery, Cork and Collateral Damage, Pyle Center, Wisconsin
