GráNite is a series of events celebrating old stones and the history & folklore that surrounds them.
Inspired by iconic megalithic monuments; stone circles, cairns, passage mounds, dolmens, and portal tombs, GráNite seeks to preserve the legacy and cultural significance of ancient sites through music, art, film, and performance.
We are delighted to host this iteration of GráNite to celebrate the Black Box 18th Birthday with guest artist Beers on the Corner and a live performance from The Brigideens.
The evening will be woven together with recherché sounds from selector CCP, visuals created by Stephen Hackett and a specially commissioned soundscape by Belfast based musician, composer and DJ, Stuart Watson. Modelling clay will be available to recreate your own stone monument miniatures and we are excited to launch some limited edition GráNite merch and artwork.
Beers on the Corner
Alex Johnson (Beers on the Corner Tattoo) is a tattooer, illustrator and mixed media artist from the industrial/pastoral depths of the English Midlands. Currently living in Belfast, his work centers around themes relating to place, folklore, history, politics, class, and mythology with particular focus on psychogeography and the understanding and celebration of the land beneath one’s feet.
The Brigideens are a Belfast-based Experimental-Trad duo, established by Catriona Ní Ghribín (voice, piano accordion) and Aoife Ní Raghallaigh (voice, bodhrán). Their goal is to explore the hardships faced by Irish women throughout history and to celebrate them through song and storytelling. Their music displays contemporary techniques through Traditional music and is complimented by their light-hearted stories and knowledge of the Songs.
