about

Our May Day theme is Peace on Earth: Observing the 87th anniversary of the bombing of the town of Gernika by Hitler: 26th April 1937. The IBCC are delighted to announce that Gerry Murphy Assistant General Secretary of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions will join us in our May Day event on the 26th April in the Black Box. We will be emphasising the need to build a peace movement to end all wars

Joe Solo is an award-winning musician, writer, poet, activist, broadcaster and washing machine engineer from Scarborough. His musical odyssey began in 1987 fronting a bash-em-out band at school, and has seen him play nine countries either as lynchpin of pop-punk upstarts Lithium Joe or hammering out his unique brand of Folk, Punk and Blues in his own right. On top of releasing twenty one albums since 2004, Solo has written a series of children’s books for Unison on social justice and equality amongst many other projects

Teknopeasant is a Banjoshredding blues-punk mountainman from Donegal. Fighting for a better world and an end to wars and the destruction of the planet. We think you will all love his meaningful folk songs and country-blues tinged. Bringing his unique brand of rustic rebelliousness and spirited song writing into our lives.

The aim of the International Brigade Commemoration Committee is to understand why the International Brigades were formed and to appreciate why Irish people wanted to support the common cause against fascism. To keep alive, the principles that the brigaders fought for and to oppose present day prejudices through education and events and to erect memorials to those who died fighting for democracy and against fascism in Spain.
