Ciara Lee is a multi-disciplinary artist working between Dublin and Berlin. She graduated with a BA in Fine Art Painting from the National College of Art and Design in 2016 where she began working on the project Balter. She has most recently shown work in the Royal Hibernian Academy, Hangtough Contemporary and Outset Gallery.
The aim of the project Balter is to create a space where dancers can exist indefinitely. A space that allows clubbing culture to exist in society, not locked behind a closed door or reserved for the weekend. The dancefloor is a place of contained freedom, an adult playground where people can come to release the emotional tensions of everyday life. Nostalgia plays a major role in the project. Lee invites the community to interact with the gallery space by entering it through the dancefloor and each visitor brings their own past experiences and memories with them to the exhibition. Dance has a way of uniting people with a common experience.
