Cathal Francis is a 23 year old indie folk singer-songwriter from the townland of Culmore on the Derry/Donegal border. With a vulnerable and intimate style, he has been likened to songwriters such as Bright Eyes, Elliott Smith and Nick Drake.

His first self-released EP, Rewind, showcases the foundational qualities of his distinctly melancholic sound: stripped back, raw and flecked with poignancy. However, it’s not just in the music where Cathal shows an affection for the bittersweet – he is unafraid to communicate both light and heavy subject matter in his lyrics, often grappling with the themes of alienation, lost love and mental health.

In early 2023 Cathal caught the attention of songwriter/producer Thom Southern who signed him to his new indie record label, Mighty Good Leader. Cathal’s first single ‘Go On’ released on MGL and produced by Thom Southern will be out 22nd of September on all streaming platforms.
