Hi, I’m Alana Barton (@alanabartonart), a painter from the North coast of Ireland. I studied Fine art at the University of Ulster and graduated in 2016. I’m based at Vault Studios in East Belfast.
My paintings explore childhood and family relationships inspired by nostalgia and Renaissance paintings. The artwork combines figurative and abstract elements in a vibrant aesthetic to convey surreal, dreamlike states and alternative realities. Childhood and family relationships are something we can all relate to somehow. I hope my work gives a sense of nostalgia and brings back memories from our childhoods.
I’m excited to share with you my new exhibition ‘Kindred’.
‘Kindred’ is a series of five small paintings. The collection grew from the simple idea of a single origin/composition. This idea allowed me to explore my creative process and experiment with different techniques and approaches, creating five unique outcomes. The project was inspired by spring, new beginnings, growth and transformation. With the single-origin acting as the seed and the painting
process reflecting growth.
