about

The Skull Prints

Skull is a live audio-visual collaboration that takes place every month in the Black Box. During each Skull, the resident artist/illustrator creates several paintings based on prompts written and drawn by patrons. The improvised results are often obscure, paradoxical, sardonic and melancholic: hybrids of audience suggestion and the artist/illustrator’s own obsessions. To celebrate ten years of Skull, the images are now available as high-quality prints in a range of sizes. The Skull Prints exhibition launches the first volume of these which can be purchased through www.skullprints.org. The exhibition contains some age-sensitive imagery.

Artist bio:

The Skull performers are the DJ’s Stuart Watson, Jeff Doherty and Ryan Fitzsimmons and the visual artist/illustrator is Duncan Ross. Skull has been running in the Black Box’s Green Room bar since April 2016, currently between 7pm and 11pm on the first Thursday of each month. Conceived as a form of political cartooning to music, the event has developed into an ongoing response to the venue, its visitors and location. To date, nearly 600 images have been created over 110 evenings.

The Skull Prints is exhibiting in the Green Room across the month of September.
