about

Drawing influence from the likes of Joni, Cohen, and Buckley, Derry-born RUÁ’s sound has
been compared to that of Linda Perhacs, Lhasa De Sela and Clare Sands to name a few.
Recently, RUÁ has been approaching her song writing with curiosity and experimentation,
following the footsteps of her favourite genre-spanning artists such as Adrianne Lenker,
Talking Heads and David Keenan.

The recent additions of multi-instrumentalist Conán Mullan on whistle, fiddle, mandolin and
guitar bringing Irish / Americana textures and Ciaran (Steamy) McCay (of TRAMP), bringing
South American / Japanese inspired percussion, as well as synth and sound design, brings the
music into a dreamlike world existing outside of any one place or time.

Her debut EP is due for release in late May and is supported by PRS Foundation’s Women Make Music
Fund. The EP is a collaboration between RUÁ and award-winning producer / composer Orri
McBrearty. The record also features renowned cellist Laura McFadden (Ulster Orchestra) and
bouzouki player Martin Coyle. The release will be followed by a summer UK & IRL tour, also
supported by the fund. Her second EP is due to be released in the late autumn of 2024, and
is supported by Help Musicians as well as the Youth Music NextGen fund. The EP will be
accompanied by a short film and will be followed by another tour in the winter.
