We’re excited to welcome acclaimed Irish artist Eimear Walshe to open Outburst 2022 with The Piper’s Grip, a tender and reverent account of the homoerotics of an Irish music session. A live reading featuring a live soundtrack, in the tradition of Irish musical bawdry, this story portrays a man’s ecstatic reconnection with his culture, and in turn with himself.
Presented in the Black Box Green Room following intimate performances in IMMA, Dublin and All Together Now, Waterford.
Original essay commissioned by Mirror Lamp Press
Eimear Walshe is an artist and writer from Longford. Their practice is based on research in fiscal and sexual economies and histories, working to reconcile the aesthetics, values and tastes of their queer and rural subjectivity. Incisive, personal, and charged, Walshe’s writing reflects on how social history resonates in the sexual mores of the present time.
