The American Dream is alive and well in Florida, unless you’re a python in the Everglades.
The Python Hunt follows a rag-tag bunch of snake-hunters as they take part in an annual contest to exterminate an invasive species of python. What begins as an exercise in conservation quickly becomes an examination of the Floridian psyche and the money-driven bloodlust that exists in American society. Despite the death-drive, this is a beautiful film; seeped in rich, luscious colours and imbued with a poetry that sees the absurd humour amongst the horrors, and the loneliness cultivated by our culture of cruelty.
This screening is in collaboration with Normal Cinema Club, and director Xander Robins’ short film, Lance Lizardi, will screen before the feature.”
