The Black Box in association with Touch Sensitive Records present A Life In Waves.
A Life in Waves directed by Brett Whitcomb, explores the life and innovations of composer and electronic music pioneer, Suzanne Ciani – “the American Delia Derbyshire of The Atari Generation”.
From her earliest days learning the piano, to her multi-million dollar advertising ventures, to her successes in the world of New Age music, to her recent re-connection with her beloved Buchla synthesizer and the reissue of her archive through Finders Keepers Records, the film is a journey into Suzanne’s mind, offering a feminine glimpse into the often complicated world of electronic music.
Touch Sensitive DJs will bookend the film with music from Ciani alongside other female explorers of early electronic music and their students.
This screening of A Life in Waves is part of FUGUE a series that takes the themes of music and performance in film and uses them to subvert, distort and fragment the traditional cinema experience. Events will take place between May-Oct 2017 with support from Film Hub NI.
This event is also in association with Women’s Work Festival 24th 29th May 2017.
