Imagine! presents In Celebration of ‘Grey Gardens’.
about
Grey Gardens (Dir: Albert Maysles, David Maysles, Ellen Hovde, Muffie Myer, 1975) is the film no one forgets. It was revolutionary for its time, and over five decades later its influence permeates today throughout documentary film and television, from Errol Morris to Louis Theroux.
The film follows two reclusive, upper-class women, Edith ‘big Edie’ Bouvier Beale and her adult daughter, Edith ‘Little Edie’ Bouvier Beale. The women are cousins of Jackie O, high-society dropouts who lived in squalor on the grounds of their decaying sprawling East Hampton estate. Their very existence in the late twentieth century feels gloriously anomalous – their lives as a vibrant archaeological relic. All these years later, the Grey Gardens film continues to inspire: whether in films, magazine covers or collectible dolls!
Join us for an evening in the Black Box as we invite you to embrace that Grey Gardens spirit with a screening of the film, a ‘best Little Edie quotes’ competition, a soundtrack of 20s-40s music and more!
“East Hampton eccentric” dress is encouraged…
Film ends 9:40pm – event ends 11:00pm.
This event is 18+
