about
Tender Furies is a new body of drawings by Wilhelmina Peace.
The exhibition emerged from a period of sustained reflection on the relentless tide of absurd and troubling events shaping our world. In the face of this upheaval, Peace began to consider rage not simply as a destructive force, but as a catalyst, a vital energy capable of provoking change, clarity, and introspection.
Her long-standing engagement with mythology led her to the Furies of Greek myth, primordial beings charged with upholding moral order. In classical narratives, the Furies were unleashed to pursue those in power who had broken sacred oaths. They embodied righteous anger; their fury was not chaos, but consequence.
In Tender Furies, Peace channels a collective atmosphere of anger and confusion, while turning her attention toward something quieter beneath it. The work seek to uncover the tenderness that often lies hidden within rage, the vulnerability, care, and longing for justice that give anger its force.
These drawings hold space for both states at once. They suggest that fury and tenderness are not opposites, but intertwined energies. In acknowledging their coexistence, Peace proposes the possibility of transformation: that by facing anger fully, we might also encounter its softer, human core.
