about

Continuing with the Autumn 2022 Season theme of ‘Hysteria and Lunacy’, feminist horror club Ghouls On Film are exploring the history of the hagspoitation flick, with a screening of the legendary ‘Whatever Happened to Baby Jane’. Starring real life Hollywood rivals Bette Davis and Joan Crawford as bitter siblings with a deadly vendetta, the film follows Jane (Davis), an ageing child star and her hatred towards her sister, Blanche (Crawford), a movie-star whose former success drives a wedge between the sisters, and leads to an unfurling tale of torment and tragedy.

To give us all an in depth understanding of the sub-genre, we welcome local writer Victoria Brown. Victoria will be giving a pre-screening talk on ‘Hagsploitation’ , which will delve into the origins of the subgenre, examine the importance of the relationship between Bette Davis and Joan Crawford in ‘Whatever Happened to Baby Jane’, and explore the subgenre’s legacy in 2022.

Victoria Brown is a Belfast-based horror lover . She writes for BanterFlix & FrightClub NI. She is the founder of The Readers in the Rue Morgue Horror Book Club and the head of Mors Certa, a voluntary Death Positive initiative You can find her work at www.read-review-repeat.com

As always, era-fitting costume is greatly encouraged, so reach into the dusty depths of your wardrobe and throw on that 60’s babydoll dress because it’s time for #hothagwinter.

Doors at 6pm, with pre-screening talk to begin at 6:30pm.

Tickets £3
