After our Summer break we are delighted to welcome all you ghouls back to a special pre-season screening event, just ahead of our Autumn 2022 season. For this screening, we are collaborating with our cowpoke pals over at Fist City Queer Country Radio, to bring you an evening of Western Horror including a screening of Emma Tammi’s The Wind (2018).

The Wind (2018) follows frontier-woman Lizzy in the prairie-lands of 19th Century rural America, and we see the story through her eyes; the wind-swept view of a woman who is struggling to balance the historic expectations placed on women alongside increasing supernatural forces. As described by Rolling Stone Magazine; “the vibe is going to be heavy frontier-gothic with liberal doses of feminized psychological dread. If you’re thinking “Repulsion by John Ford,” you’re more on the right track than you could possibly know.” The first feature film from powerhouse Emma Tammi was picked up by horror streaming platform Shudder, but we think the best way to experience the haunting isolation it conjures is on the big screen, so to compliment this atmospheric film we welcome Fist City Queer Country Radio for a DJ set sure to spook even the most terrifying demons of the prairie.

After almost 3 months away from our events we simply cannot wait to return to The Black Box with this one-off event, and as always, dressing up is highly encouraged! (we would never miss the opportunity to get the aul fringed jacket and cowboy boots out).

Ghouls on Film is a monthly feminist horror film club, showing films that challenge the representations of women within the genre. Expect cult classics, independent releases and rare lesser-known films that explore how women can find agency in the world of horror.

This event is open to all genders and strives to be inclusive in its film screenings.
