In Anita Rocha de Silveira’s girl-gang feature, Medusa (2021), derangement and mass hysteria leak through the clinical facade via dream sequences reminiscent of David Lynch, whilst glowing neon tones of green and pink permeate the screen.
Exploring Christian extremism and its views on young women, Medusa (2021) brings to mind recent trends in purity culture like YouTubers ‘Girl Defined’, and unpacks a deeper darkness in societies treatment of teenage girls.
Screening in collaboration with The New Black Film Collective, and featuring a pre-recorded introduction from Sarah Edwards of TNBFC.
Ghouls On Film is a Belfast-based feminist horror film society. We aim to showcase underrepresented stories from the world of horror, both behind the camera and on screen.
Supported by Film Hub NI, part of the BFI Film Audience Network, awarding funds from National Lottery.
