Speakers Bio:
My name is Mohaddeseh Ziyachi. I was born and grew up in Qom, the most religious city in Iran, before moving to Tehran to attend University.
I obtained my BA in social sciences from Allameh Tabataba’i University and completed my master’s degree in sociology at the same university. My master’s dissertation was concerned with the problem of gender and city with a concentration on the concept of the women-friendly city, in which I studied urban life experiences of middle-class women living in Tehran and investigated whether or not they consider Tehran to be a women-friendly city.
After a couple of years of working at the university, being interested in gender and interdisciplinary studies, I moved to Belfast to study for a PhD in Cognition and Culture at Queen’s University. In my PhD thesis, I characterised the problem of motherhood focusing on Iranian society, from a cognitive anthropological, evolutionary psychological, and historical perspective.
I graduated in July 2022 and am now an assistant professor (research) at the sociology department of Durham University.
Ghouls On Film is a Belfast-based feminist horror film society. We aim to showcase underrepresented stories from the world of horror, both behind the camera and on screen.
