about
Ulster Film Office returns to meatspace with a presentation of Neil Breen’s latest film…
Cade: The Tortured Crossing is an odyssey of redemption and chaos. Cade, a mysterious figure with superhuman abilities, embarks on a quest to save humanity by building a futuristic healing centre. As he battles against corruption and greed, he is haunted by his past, facing doppelgängers, clones, and an endless cycle of betrayal and redemption.
The film weaves together themes of morality, technology, and existential despair, often blurring the line between genius and madness. Laden with cryptic dialogue, symbolic imagery, and Breen’s trademark special effects, it challenges conventional storytelling, it’s the sort of film Fellini could have made if he’d put his mind to it. The green screen-heavy visuals create an uncanny stew amplifying the film’s sense of disconnection and otherworldliness.
At its heart, Cade: The Tortured Crossing explores one man’s struggle to heal himself and the world despite insurmountable odds. It’s a film that defies explanation, demanding viewers surrender to its unique rhythm and vision. Bold, bizarre, and unapologetically unconventional, this is Neil Breen at his most ambitious and bewildering.
