about

Through the story of a victim and an ex-combatant as well as through film, music, story and reflection we explore the theme of Remembering.

Jo Berry and Pat Magee have told their story many times. We are privileged to have them with us at this Borderlands event. Jo and Pat have been brought together by the Brighton bomb. One was a victim of it and one carried out the bombing. Despite being on opposite ends of the Troubles’ story they have come together to tell their stories in friendship and in a way that brings perspective and indeed even healing. Their stories will be told alongside some music and also with input from local peacebuilders. Our event will end with a short film by Paul Hutchinson that we have screened before. It is a work of reflection that leads the audience into remembering the loss during the Troubles. This event is deliberately pointing towards the 21st June which we hope will become acknowledged as a Day of Reflection in our society and beyond. We hope it will serve as a calendar date for common remembering that all parts of our community suffered during the Troubles. Borderlands is free and is an open event to anyone. It is usually held on the 2nd Tuesday of the month in the Pavilion Bar. This month it is the 3rd Tuesday and in the Black Box venue in the centre of Belfast.
