The Art of Witchcraft’- A Faculty Lecture
3pm
Sunday 8th July
£6
Witchcraft and ‘witches’ have always attracted artists, particularly during the era of the European witch-hunts (c.1450-1750). This lecture tells the story of witchcraft and witch-hunts through the weird, wonderful but always arresting witchcraft paintings, etchings, engravings and drawings produced during the last 500 years. Guided by the eye of Dr Andrew Sneddon, a leading expert of the subject, we will decode the imagery of witchcraft and show the hidden meanings, fear and ideology behind the art.
