COVID-19: STATEMENTBy The Black Box
It is with a heavy heart we confirm that the Black Box will be closed until further notice.
There’s no other way to do this now to slow down the spread of COVID-19 and put people first.
We had already closed for St Patrick’s Day and had made the decision to close for the foreseeable future, but wanted to talk with our staff team, the artists, promoters, and other we work with before announcing that. We especially wanted to catch up with those in our Black Moon, Moon Base and associate projects for and by people with learning disabilities who are already very isolated and may find this time harder than most. We’re continuing to look at ways to stay connected, and maintain the brilliant, diverse and unique community that is the Black Box 🖤
We’ll be in contact with everyone we can regarding any upcoming events or queries.
Please do bear with us, as we are just setting up to work from home for the first time it will take a few days to catch up.
Please don’t turn up for gigs or events until we have the all clear that it’s safe to open again and make a further announcement on that.
As echoed by many this week, the closure of arts and cultural venues will have a very real and devastating impact on the music, theatre and arts industries and, bottom line, that means impact on many individual people. If you can afford to help out, we are asking that you continue to support us and other cultural spaces so we are still here for everyone when we come through this unprecedented time.
Here are some things you can do:
– If you’ve bought a ticket for an event that’s cancelled, consider donating the cost of your ticket back to help support the Black Box, our staff, and the vulnerable communities that we support through our charity.
– Buy a voucher to spend on events when this is all over and we get to play again
– Donate any amount, big or small online anytime via our website direct link shorturl.at/eGJY2
– Sign up to membership! Become a Black Box member and get some great freebies and benefits https://www.blackboxbelfast.com/member/
Over the last 14 years (it’s our birthday next month), Black Box has created a unique space for emerging artists and cutting edge music and performance. But we are so much more than just that. We’re somewhere that actively makes room for artists to take risks, for marginalised people to express themselves, and for us all to connect and learn with each other. We’ve had so many amazing performers grace our stages. You are all in our thoughts as we work hard now to make sure this home we’ve made together is still here for us all for years to come.
We look forward to welcoming you back when we open again. In the meantime, we’ll keep in touch via our website and social media platforms.
It’s a time for radical trust and relentless creative solidarity. We will be working on ways we can use our connections, networks and voice to play our part in that.
With much love,
The Black Box Team and Board
