Exhibition-Mervyn Marshall- Dead Time
Aug 1 @ 6:00 pm – Aug 25 @ 7:00 pm

Dead Time, is the name given to the period of time between sugar harvests when Cuba sees a rise in unemployment and workers return to the cities. Demonstrating the remarkable resilience and adaptable nature of the Cuban people, this series attempts to capture this sense of time; as its spent, killed or simply lost. Each photograph, accompanied by a small description, tells the story of life as it is. Two men rip up a cobblestone street in Old Trinidad. An old man counts his pension on a bustling Havana street. Through each image, I wanted to portray the languid pace and moods of a life spent in anticipation of what is to come and what has already been forgotten.

Artist Bio: Mervyn Marshall is a 26-year-old photographer and filmmaker from Belfast. He is currently completing an AHRC-funded PhD at Queen’s University on British horror cinema.

Real Sketchy
Aug 1 @ 9:00 pm – 11:00 pm

Since November 2012 Seedhead Arts has been running and developing Real Sketchy, a open live sketching event taking place in a bar environment. Over the years it’s developed from something that was largely populated by artists to being somewhere that anyone can have a wee sketch and a laugh over a few pints.

Although inspired by the spirit of Street Art, we’re really interested in the cross-pollenisation of different disciplines like comic, illustration, design, etc and how this plays out in a live environment, in a crowd of people with a wide range of skills and backgrounds. Plus beer. And music.

Thanks to sponsorship from Ink Monkey in North Street we are now able to provide pens, pencils and paper for everyone.
