Reflections on folklore, mortality and myth.
Throughout periods of social and political unrest, technological progress and disillusionment, history has repeatedly given birth to a revived cultural interest in occult and surreal themes.
‘I often feel like I’m being burned at the stake just because I have always refused to give up that wonderful strange power I have inside me that becomes manifested when I am in harmonious communication with some other inspired being’
(Leonora Carrington, 1917-2011)
Since November 2012 Seedhead Arts has been running and developing Real Sketchy, a open live sketching event taking place in a bar environment. Over the years it’s developed from something that was largely populated by artists to being somewhere that anyone can have a wee sketch and a laugh over a few pints.
Although inspired by the spirit of Street Art, we’re really interested in the cross-pollenisation of different disciplines like comic, illustration, design, etc and how this plays out in a live environment, in a crowd of people with a wide range of skills and backgrounds. Plus beer. And music.
Thanks to sponsorship from Ink Monkey in North Street we are now able to provide pens, pencils and paper for everyone.
