instagram_1Joe Barwise is a Derry based illustrator and designer (now residing in Belfast!). He is the creative director of HAUS EIGHT Independent Film & Design and helps oversee the digital and screen printing facilities at Derry Print Workshop.Alongside his design projects and workshop responsibilities Joe produces and exhibits his own illustrations and prints. Recent solo work has included illustrations for the essay The Secret History of Northern Irish Science Fiction as part of the CCA Derry’s publication ‘Scissors Cut Paper Wrap Stone’, animations used in the Ryan Vail music video ‘1927’ and two shows at the Playhouse Derry; ‘Octopus Milk’ (2015) and ‘Lost In The Supermarket’ (2016).

Lost In The Super Market:

“Lost In The Super Market is a series of limited edition screen prints that were first exhibited at the Playhouse Derry in late November 2016.
The project/show took it’s title from The Clash song of the same name and the underlying theme for the work sprung from there. A kind of abstract play-list I guess. Each print owes it’s inception to one of the tracks that have been playing on the studio playlist over the months prior to the show.

In total there were 20 prints on show but it’s become an ongoing and ever expanding project. I’m delighted to be showing a selection of work from the original exhibition at the Black Box as well as couple of newly finished prints.”
