Black Moon

Black Moon is a night for and by adults with learning disabilities – giving people a chance to socialise in a cool, modern environment, meet new people and learn new skills.

It was set up by the Black Box in 2010 with support from the Now Project. We have groups coming from Omagh, Bangor, Carrickfergus and beyond each month and we are often joined by Mencap’s Livenet project.

The club is on the first Tuesday of each month (usually) and is from 7pm to 10pm. It is £3 entry and £1 entry for parents and carers. If you would like to arrange for a group to come along please get in touch!

One of our resident DJs Mark has a moderate learning disability. Mark is a young man who loves music and wanted to bring music to other people. He has every piece of DJ equipment conceivable, including decks, lights, amps, speakers, smoke machine, bubble machine and much more. Mark is one of the resident DJs at the Black Moon Club Nights held once a month in Belfast and has had much publicity through the club.

The BBC NI featured Mark in a documentary on taxi journeys around the city of Belfast. ‘Taxi Tales’ was aired in March 2013 and a local paper also picked up on the story with a full-page feature.

And check out Mark Patty on this video created about Black Moon.
